About

Jacksons Inside HistoryJackson’s Music was founded in Atlanta, Georgia in 1958 by brothers Jerry and Wesley Jackson. The two brothers ran the business together briefly, then Wesley went on to run the store by himself. A generation of Atlantans came to know Mr. J for his wit, his helpfulness, and his good deals.

Long-time employee Charlotte Dryden and her husband, Doug Dryden, purchased the store from Mr. Jackson in 1978 when he decided to retire. They operated the store on Old National Hwy. at Flat Shoals Rd. and continued to expand the business by working closely with band directors to further musical education in the schools. In 1994, they moved the store two miles south into a building they designed and built (the present Riverdale, GA location).

Further growth was imminent. In 1996, daughter, Mari-Jo and business partner, Beth Rippey established a new location in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. About the same time, son Doug and wife, Joey designed and opened a location in Douglasville, GA. Most recent, Doug and Joey designed and built a shopping center in Buford, GA. Jackson’s Music, of course, is the featured store!

We know how important honesty, good service, and low prices were to our predecessors and we continue to make these things central to Jackson’s Music Store.

But the company doesn’t stop there. Recognizing the immeasurable impact of music on the social and intellectual well-being of children, Jackson’s has made it a focus to give back to youth through instrument donation programs, the VH1 Save the Music Foundation, and Jackson’s JAMZ, a unique summer camp opportunity at the shop’s Winston-Salem and Buford locations.
